A former Milwaukee Brewers shortstop, who hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2013, is facing legal trouble due to reported insurance fraud in Miami. Per reports himself and three others staged a car crash to collect the payout. A court hearing will take place in May 2024.
Former Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt is in serious legal trouble.
According to Yahoo Sports Yuniesky Betancourt and three others reported a car crash in December of 2022. The police and insurance companies were notified. Subsequent state investigations have revealed that the accident never took place, however Betancourt and his accomplices did seek out treatment and physical therapy afterwards. As a result Kemper Inusrance was billed over $61,000.
Yuniesky Betancourt could face up to 10 years in prison.
If convicted Betancourt and the others could face up to 10 years in prison. Betancourt reportedly has left jail on a $4,500 bond. The next scheduled court hearing is currently in May of this year.
Yuniesky Betancourt played two seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers.
After signing out of Cuba with the Seattle Mariners and being traded to the Kansas City Royals, Betancourt eventually made his way to the Brewers in 2011 where the shortstop posted a .652 OPS across 152 games played. He returned to the Royals in 2012 but then came back to Milwaukee for his final year in the big leagues in 2013.
