The Wisconsin wrestling team opened up their 2023-24 dual season this past week with a dominant 41-4 win over Lindenwood.
Wisconsin wrestlers Dean Hamiti, Joe Zargo, Eric Barnett, Luke Mechler, and Shane Liegel recorded falls. The Badgers proved to be too much for Lindenwood as the team opened their dual season in excellent fashion. Wisconsin will now prepare for the Michigan State Open on November 11th before hosting Iowa State.

The Wisconsin Badgers wrestling team hosted the Lindenwood wrestling team Sunday afternoon in the UW Field House. Wisconsin opened the meet with nine straight victories, racking up a 41-0 lead in no time. The only loss for the Badgers on the day came at 285-pounds when Lindenwood secured a 17-2 major decision.
Wisconsin opened up the meet at 125 pounds when #5 Eric Barnett made quick work of his opponent, landing a fall at the 2:14 mark. The Badgers secured their second fall of the night at 149 pounds when #16 Joseph Zargo won by technical fall, 17-2, to give Wisconsin an 18-0 meet lead.

Oklahoma State transfer Luke Mechler made his Badgers debut one to remember after securing the third fall of the night for the Badgers in only 50 seconds. Wisconsin wrestling secured their fourth fall, and third in a row, after #4 Dean Hamiti recorded a 19-3 technical fall at 165 pounds. 184-pound wrestler Shane Liegel had the fifth and final fall of the night for Wisconsin with a 17-2 technical fall.

After their impressive dominating win over Lindenwood, Wisconsin wrestling has turned their attention towards their next dual meet. The Badgers will wrestle in the Michigan State Open Tournament on Veteran’s Day before traveling to Iowa to face the Iowa State Cyclones. Wisconsin intends on sending their full starting roster to East Lansing in hopes of producing multiple weight class winners.
The Wisconsin wrestling team is set to take on Iowa State at Humboldt High School in Iowa on November 19th. Iowa State is currently the tenth-ranked team in the Nation behind their talented captain, David Carr. Carr received UFC Fightpass Most Outstanding Wrestler honors in his last match after recording a fall at the 1:47 mark.
Wisconsin will face the Cyclones on UFC Fightpass when the team travels down to Iowa. Iowa State is fresh off a 43-3 dual meet victory over Cleveland State. The Cyclones will face Davidson at home on November 12th before hosting the visiting Wisconsin wrestling team.
