Wisconsin Women’s basketball is bringing home hardware this year as forward Serah Williams claimed a massive award.
Williams, a 6-foot-4-inch forward for the Badgers, was named Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year this season. Williams is the first Badger to do so since 2001, and also found a spot on the All-Big Ten first-team following her amazing season. The New York native becomes the 11th female Badger to ever make the All-Big Ten first-team and the first since 2014.

After finishing her regular season with a double-double average, dropping 18.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, Wisconsin Badger forward Serah Williams earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Conference first-team. Williams was the heart and soul of the Wisconsin basketball team this season as she dropped 31-point performances twice and added a 30-point performance to her stat line as well.
First-team was not the only honors Williams would claim as she also earned Defensive Player Of The Year honors from the conference as well. The Wisconsin Women’s basketball forward was a tremendous part of the team success thus far into the season.
Serah Williams Cements Herself in Wisconsin Women’s Basketball History Following Tremendous Season
Serah Williams ignited the Wisconsin basketball team this season as she carried both their offense and their defense each game. En route to winning her defensive award, Williams averaged nearly three blocks per game and a steal per game. The Sophomore forward recorded 74 blocks this season along with 210 defensive rebounds, which was nearly 75% of her rebounding production.
Williams has established herself as a dominant, interior glass cleaner and rarely do opposing teams find success when trying to challenge her. The talented defender also established herself as a double-double machine this season for the Wisconsin Women’s basketball team.
What is Up Next for Wisconsin Women’s Basketball?
For the Wisconsin Women’s basketball team, the squad finished the regular season with a record of 13-15, particularly struggling with conference play. The Badgers open up their Big Ten Conference Tournament against the Penn State Nittany Lions, March 7th, as they attempt to buy a ticket into the NCAA Tournament.
The Wisconsin Women’s basketball team started off the season hot, but hit quite the wall once it came time to play against their own conference. Hopefully, both Serah Williams and the Wisconsin Women’s basketball team can pull off a win over Penn State. In order to do so, they will need some big play out of forward Serah Williams and company.
