The Wisconsin Badgers football team has seen one of the top in-state recruits commit to another school recently. Badgers prospect 2024 three-star linebacker Sam Pilof has announced his commitment to Rutgers via Twitter as the Spring season heats up. Coach Greg Schiano will get a great pick-up as the Wisconsin loses out on a recruit that seemed to have been locked-in previously. The Badgers will have to work hard to land the rest of their in-state recruits moving forward.
Wisconsin Badgers Lose Chase For In-State Linebacker Sam Pilof

Wisconsin has lost the battle for the elusive in-state recruit, Sam Pilof. Pilof is a Middleton native and currently ranks as the fourth best recruit in the state, and the 59th linebacker overall. The 247 Sports Composite rankings, however, have Pilof ranked as the tenth best player in the state. In the composite rankings, Pilof sits behind the latest Badgers commitment, fellow three-star linebacker Landon Gauthier of Bay Port. Gauthier committed to Wisconsin earlier this week after visiting campus last month and meeting with the football staff.

The Badgers were primed to land both Pilof and Gauthier only a few weeks ago, but much has changed since. In terms of recruiting it is simply impossible for each program to land all of their recruiting targets. For the Badgers, Pilof had been recruited by coaches Mike Tressel and Colin Hitschler, but felt his collegiate home should be where the fit felt best. Despite five visits and intense recruiting, the linebacker decided to continue with the program that he meshed with the most.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights Land 2024 Three-Star Linebacker Sam Pilof
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights football program has gone through quite the rough patch as of late. Since hiring their new head coach Greg Schiano, the Scarlet Knights have gone 12-22 and lost their lone bowl game 38-10 against Wake Forest. The program has not found the success it would like, but Schiano offers a different level of experience for the program that they have not had in a while.

Coach Greg Schiano was the head coach for Rutgers from 2001-2011, winning six bowl games in five appearances. Schiano also brought Rutgers to #12 on the AP Poll in 2006 as they finished with an 11-2 record. Schiano hopes to bring the Scarlet Knights back to the glory he once led the team into. However, that task has proven to be a bit harder than anticipated so far for coach Schiano and Rutgers.
Landing a proven recruit such as Sam Pilof is a step in the right direction for Rutgers. The Wisconsin Badgers on the other hand lost out on a talented recruit who once seemed poised to land in Madison. The linebacker is another top recruit from the state of Wisconsin off the board as recruiting has started to heat up.
