The newly acquired co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Colin Hitschler has already made significant recruiting progress. The Badgers are looking for recruits far and wide, and some of the most intriguing recruits carry with them other schools. One of Hitschler’s latest offers is receiving crystal ball projections to Rutgers, but perhaps the Badgers will be able to land him.
Hitschler offers four-star athlete Jaylan Hornsby
One of the more unique prospects from the 2024 class is the athlete, Jaylan Hornsby. Hornsby is a four-star recruit from Camden, New Jersey and holds offers to 14 universities currently. Hornsby is listed as an athlete because he can play safety or wide receiver, and he has been offered by coaches as each position.
Currently, Hornsby is listed as a wide receiver according to Rivals. However, it seems like the Badgers are more interested in his potential as a safety. Coach Colin Hitschler is the safeties coach for the Badgers, as well as the co-defensive coordinator. Hitschler seems to like the size and strength of Hornsby at the position enough to offer him a chance to become part of the Badgers defense.
Hitschler has seen James Wiggins, Bryan Cook, and Darrick Forrest through to the NFL during his time with the Bearcats. All three players were coached by Hitschler and eventually had the chance to be drafted. Bryan Cook was the highest draft pick, being selected 62nd overall by the Kansas City Chiefs. The track record for the safety position is certainly there, and given who offered him, Hornsby could be the next safety in that list.
The recruiting for Hornsby is still in the early stages for most schools. However, Hornsby has already visited Rutgers twice, since it is the closest school to him that he holds an offer too. Hornsby has also taken a visit to Penn State and Pittsburgh. Wisconsin will have some competition for the four-star athlete.
