The Wisconsin Football Head Coach Luke Fickell addressed the Big Ten media recently and answered a handful of questions regarding his tenure thus far.
Fickell, a former defensive lineman best know for his coaching tenure with the Cincinnati Bearcats, took over the Badgers in November of 2022. Since taking control of the Wisconsin football team, Fickell has added a star-studded staff and plenty of fantastic recruits. Now, the questions are whether or not the team and the staff will live up to the hype during year one.
Wisconsin Football Thriving Off-Field Under Head Coach Luke Fickell, But Will The Same Happen On-Field?
Coach Fickell has only been a part of the Wisconsin program for a short period of time. Yet, the impact the coach has made in that time has been tremendous. Fickell has re-defined the ideals of what “Badger Football” is looking for in their players. Already the coach has installed a new system as he begins to develop his own culture in Madison.
As part of Big Ten media week, coach Fickell addressed the Big Ten media to answer plenty of questions regarding the program and his transition into the position. Clearly, leaving the Bearcats was tough for Fickell following his bunches of success with the program, however it was time for a change of scenery.
When asked about this upcoming season in 2023, Fickell asserted that the goal from the program would be simple. “We have one objective, to play for a championship,” Fickell stated. The coach expects to put out an extremely competitive squad in his first-year of coaching the Wisconsin football team.
Luke Fickell would prefer people doubt his team but they’ll be just fine handling the high expectations fans have for the program.

Fickell also acknowledged that there will be plenty of doubters this upcoming season given the changes. However, the coach would rather embrace the doubt than set lower expectations for himself and the Wisconsin football program.
Can the Wisconsin Staff Change the Badgers Drastically In Just One Off-season?
Uw Football Spring Practice 5 March 25 2023
Given what Fickell has done at other programs he has coached for, specially Cincinnati, the Badgers could surprise the doubters this season. Fickell has surrounded himself with a new staff, a new batch of players who fit his system, and an array of assistants who share the same football philosophy.
The Wisconsin team should be able to reach their lofty expectations given the talent and potential the team has. The major question is whether or not the team is ready to do so at this time.
As seen in the Spring game, the Wisconsin team has not spent a long period of time together. Many of the new Wisconsin players and starters were still getting used to the system during the game, which resulted in questionable play.
Both coach Fickell and his staff believe the Badgers will become more cohesive before making a run this season.
