The Wisconsin football staff has been in close contact with one of the top FCS defenders and transfer portal entries, linebacker John Pius.

Pius, a former defensive star for William & Mary, entered the transfer portal after the team finished 6-5 this past season. The exceptional linebacker recorded 171 tackles and 24.5 sacks during his time with the Tribe before entering the transfer portal. Since his entrance, the Wisconsin football staff has been eagerly recruiting the defensive leader in hopes of landing him in Madison.

Wisconsin Football Lands FCS Transfer Portal Linebacker John Pius

The Wisconsin football staff had been in close contact with Pius for quite some time now, and the Badgers were finally able to land a commitment from the transfer. Pius, a dominant linebacker from Virginia, entered the transfer portal after leading the Tribe defense to a 6-5 record. Pius had arguably his best game of the season for his team against the Virginia Cavaliers, where the linebacker recorded eight tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble.

The talented linebacker broke out for William & Mary a season ago when he took over the starting position. Pius recorded 72 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and 19 tackles for loss as he finished second in voting for FCS Defensive Player of the Year. Pius put himself on the map last season when he recorded 3.5 sacks against Lafayette as the Tribe won 34-7.

Pius has proven himself to be a tenacious linebacker that can cover plenty of ground both moving forwards and backwards. The talented defender was first recruited as a hybrid defensive back, but has now found a home rushing the quarterback and controlling the middle of the field. The Wisconsin football staff has been looking to revamp their defense after this past season, and Pius will certainly be a great player to do so.

After a week of close recruiting, the Wisconsin football staff has finally landed a commitment from the FCS linebacker John Pius. While it may not be the star quarterback commitment just yet for the Badgers, Pius will likely become a key part of the Wisconsin defense next season.

With 171 career tackles and 24.5 career sacks, Pius will bring plenty of experience and success to the Wisconsin football defense. The linebacker has the ability to play both on the line for Wisconsin and deep into coverage. Regardless of what manner the staff uses Pius in, the linebacker is bound to end up around the ball at the end of each play.
