The Wisconsin football staff received an excellent addition when EJ Whitlow announced he would join as the defensive line coach.
Whitlow, a former defensive ends and defensive line coach for Air Force, has developed quite the reputation as an excellent coach and recruiter. Shortly after joining the staff, Whitlow already contacted the top 2025 recruiting targets Wisconsin football has for the defensive line. Among the recruits Whitlow has contacted is a standout four-star, who currently has plenty of ties to Michigan football.
Wisconsin Football Hires Defensive Line Coach EJ Whitlow, Quickly Gets to Work
Only five days after officially signing on as the defensive line coach for Wisconsin football, EJ Whitlow already made his first handful of calls to introduce himself to recruits. Before joining Wisconsin, Whitlow spent the previous two seasons as a defensive ends coach for Air Force, where his defense allowed just 13.4 points per game. The Falcons also allowed just 245.5 yards per game as well, which placed them in the top National defensive ranking two seasons ago when Whitlow was first hired.
Whitlow has the experience and track record to prove he knows how to get the most out of a defensive line. For the seasoned coach, that will start by forming a unit that he feels comfortable enough to contend with.

Among the recruits Whitlow has reached out to so far, 2025 four-star Jaylen Williams currently trumps them all. Williams is a dynamic, powerful defensive lineman who can line up on the inside, the outside, or even the edge is needed. At 6-feet-6-inches, Williams is a towering lineman who consistently finds ways to get past whoever the offense puts in front of him.
At this point in time, Williams is considered to be a solid lock for the Michigan football staff. However, Whitlow could change things for Wisconsin football and turn the recruitment back into a two program race. If Whitlow were able to do so, it would be a huge move for Wisconsin football as Williams is a tremendous talent.
Can Wisconsin Football Steal Williams Away From the Michigan Wolverines?
If Wisconsin football were to steal Williams away from Michigan, it would be a huge recruiting win for the Badgers. However, it seems unlikely for the Badgers to be able to successfully lure Williams away from Michigan due to his ties to the program and Head Coach Sherrone Moore.
Some analysts believe Michigan benefited from the promotion of Moore in the case of certain recruits like Williams. For Wisconsin football and EJ Whitlow, the testing of how strong the Michigan ties are has begun.
