The Wisconsin basketball staff has begun their recruiting for next season already as the Badgers have reached out to an interesting transfer.
Jacob Crews, a former NJCAA star and current member of the UT Martin Skyhawks, has announced his entry into the collegiate transfer portal. Crews is a stellar scorer and solid rebound threat, but truly provides for the team with his size for the position. Wisconsin has already reached out to the recruit, who has one year of eligibility remaining for next season.
Wisconsin Basketball Reaches Out to Dominant Guard Jacob Crews Following Portal Entry
The Wisconsin basketball staff has been hot on the trail of a recent transfer portal entry who is not new to the portal. Junior guard Jacob Crews began his collegiate basketball career at the University of North Florida before transferring to Junior College Daytona State. Crews played solid minutes as a Freshman, but come Sophomore year found himself playing rather sporadically.
Crews transferred to Daytona State, where he dominated the competition before making his Division 1 return with UT Martin. This past season, Crews averaged 19.1 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 41.4% from three-point range. The guard also shot 48.5% from the field and 81.6% from the free-throw line.
The guard led his team to a 21-11 record and the regular season Ohio Valley Conference Championship, but lost in the tournament which ultimately could leave the Skyhawks out of the NCAA Tournament.
Why Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Sees a Perfect Fit for Crews on the Team
Crews has proved at multiple levels of collegiate basketball now that he is a dynamic three-level scorer. If the guard is left alone outside of the perimeter, he can seriously make teams pay as he has averaged 2.8 three-point shots made per game this season. Crews has been a lethal shooter as his accuracy is incredibly impressive, which is something the Wisconsin basketball team can certainly use.
Crews has proven himself to be a true dead-eye whenever he is left open, and the Badgers would certainly benefit from having a player they can count on like so.
Can the Wisconsin Basketball Staff Land Crews in the Future?
At this point in time, Wisconsin basketball could certainly become the front runner for Crews due to what they can offer the talented guard. Crews is a versatile, dynamic player which is why the guard has garnered so much interest in such a short period of time spent in the portal. The Wisconsin basketball team could use Crews as their automatic scoring option in their starting lineup.
As amazing as AJ Storr has been for Wisconsin basketball, adding another scorer alongside the guard who can sink contested shots would be a huge boost. The Badgers have plenty of competition for Crews, which could certainly make the hunt for his commitment particularly hard.
UT Martin transfer Jacob Crews has heard from the following schools since entering the portal, he tells @On3sports:
Kansas State
UCLA
Kansas
Gonzaga
Oklahoma
Arkansas
Virginia Tech
Auburn
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Missouri
Georgia
NC State
LSU
Illinois
California
Marshall
UAB… https://t.co/VDGGR1IHjT— Joe Tipton (@TiptonEdits) March 16, 2024
Currently, Crews has heard from major schools like Kansas, Gonzaga, Oklahoma, NC State, and Illinois to name a few. The guard has only been in the transfer portal for a short amount of time, which means the list of interested schools is only going to grow. Wisconsin basketball will need to work extremely hard to maintain any sort of lead for the commitment of Crews.
