There is no denying over the course of the last month, Wisconsin basketball has not consistently played up to their true potential.
The Wisconsin basketball team has struggled to play solid, fundamental basketball recently which has led to a number of difficult losses. The Badgers suffered a troubling four-game losing streak that saw the team drop from the rankings as they continued to miss open shots and make mistakes. In order to avoid another loss during the upcoming conference tournament, Wisconsin will need to limit their turnovers and fundamental mistakes.
Wisconsin Basketball Must Limit Turnovers Down the Home Stretch of the Season
Over the course of the past handful of games for Wisconsin basketball, one concerning trend has taken over and caused the Badgers to struggle mightily. Over the past four game stretch, Wisconsin basketball has gone 2-2 and has turned the ball over a whopping 43 times. In three of those games, the turnover margin was four or more in favor of the opposing team, which is certainly not a recipe for a winning team.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball: Has Turning the Ball Over Been the Badgers Worst Enemy?
During this up and down 2024 season, Wisconsin basketball has averaged 10.1 turnovers committed per game while only generating 7.4 turnovers on defense. The Badgers are shooting themselves in the foot, and fairly often without the opposing defense actually applying any pressure. For example, Wisconsin has had moments where they turn the ball over during pick and rolls, in transition, or when trying to force a pass.
If the Badgers can settle down and take what the defense gives them, it could be a recipe for not only limited turnovers, but also the wins they need to close out the regular season.
Wisconsin Basketball Preparing for One Final Gauntlet Before the NCAA Tournament
Before the Badgers enter the NCAA Tournament season, assuming they will still make it in barring massive changes, Wisconsin basketball will have to fight their way through their remaining schedule. The Badgers still have four regular season games left before the Big Ten Conference Tournament. Wisconsin is still holding out plenty of hope to win the conference, but the best way for them to do so is to win their remaining games and ensure an elusive double-bye.
