The Wisconsin basketball team has lost their first-round matchup in the NCAA Tournament against 12-seed James Madison.
Wisconsin entered the NCAA Tournament as a five-seed and traveled to Brooklyn to take on the James Madison Dukes. The Dukes got out to an early lead after the Badgers had four turnovers in five possessions. The Badgers season comes to an abrupt end after two consecutive close losses to strong opponents.
Wisconsin Basketball Drops Opening Round of NCAA Tournament Against James Madison Dukes
The Wisconsin basketball team has suffered an upset loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after entering as a five-seed. The Badgers came into their game against the James Madison Dukes as a near six-point favorite over their opponent. However, the Wisconsin basketball team never held a lead as the Badgers made simple mistakes time and time again.
Wisconsin basketball could never quite match the speed, athleticism, or defense of the Dukes as the Badgers struggled greatly. Wisconsin turned the ball over 12 times at the half, allowing 20-points off of their turnovers to the Dukes. Wisconsin was able to move the ball and get to the line time and time again, but could not pull ahead.
After the Wisconsin basketball team fell behind early due to turnovers, the team tried to force far too many shots. Foul trouble kept some of the best players off the court for Wisconsin when they needed them the most.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Fought Hard, But Not Quite Enough
In a game where it mattered the most, Wisconsin basketball played hard and truly tried to keep themselves in the fight all game. Unfortunately for the Badgers, the team made mistakes like turning the ball over and missing layups when they absolutely could not afford to do so. It is hard enough to win games in March, but it is even harder when you are shooting yourself in the foot at every corner.
Heading into this game, the goal for Wisconsin basketball was to feed the paint and work the middle with their big man Steven Crowl. Wisconsin tried their best, but Crowl and the Badgers were unable to create any sort of pressure in the paint.
What is Next For the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Team?
After the game against James Madison, Wisconsin basketball will now head back to the drawing board as they begin to plan for next season. The Badgers were never able to put it all together this season, and when they were close, the team could not hold onto their form. Wisconsin basketball has plenty of work ahead of themselves as they attempt to replace a longtime leader in Tyler Wahl, and try to keep their star players home.
