Wisconsin Basketball: D3 Transfer Guard, Wisconsin Native Could Become Massive Recruiting Target

The Wisconsin basketball staff could place their focus upon a very intriguing transfer portal entry with plenty of ties to the program.

Caleb Williams, a Junior guard at Division-III Macalester College, has announced his entry into the transfer portal after plenty of consideration. Williams put himself on the map early in the season with a 41-point performance against the Minnesota Golden Gophers to open up the 2024 season. Williams has displayed a tremendous scoring ability against all levels of competition, and hopes to continue to do the same at a Division-I program.

The Wisconsin basketball staff has been on the hunt as of late for more talent after missing out on some of their key recruiting targets in the 2024 class. The Wisconsin staff could turn their focus towards the transfer portal as one of the more talented individuals in college basketball this season has officially entered his name. The Wisconsin native Caleb Williams is officially in the transfer portal after his school, Division-III Macalester, finished their season at 10-15.

During his three years of play at Macalester, Williams averaged 19.6 points per game and added 2.5 assists and four rebounds per game to his stat line.

Williams put himself into the spotlight this season with his incredible scoring displays, as Williams has scored 51, 41, 36, and 34 points against his opponents this season. Williams also proved he can score against the best-of-the-best, as the guard exploded for 41-points against the Minnesota Golden Gophers to open the 2024 season. It was by far one of the best performances this season for Williams, and it came against a program he should have been outmatched against.

Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Needs Another Strong, Intelligent Scorer on Offense

If there is one thing Wisconsin basketball has struggled with across the board this season, it has been the intelligence of play. Wisconsin has made small, simple mistakes over and over again this season and it has come to bite the Badgers in losses against Iowa, Rutgers, and Purdue. Wisconsin basketball has struggled to slow down pace and run their plays, and instead forces contested, difficult shots.

The Wisconsin basketball program could benefit from adding someone like Williams who not only provides an offensive boost, but also provides excellent basketball intelligence. With a potential shake-up coming for the Wisconsin Badgers bench this off-season, adding Williams could be a move the Badgers strongly consider.

Will the Wisconsin Basketball Program Target Williams Moving Forward?

At this point in time, the most that has happened between the two sides is an exchange of film. Wisconsin basketball has not official begun recruiting Williams towards their program, as they have a season of their own to focus on, however that does not mean it will not happen in the near future. Once the dust has settled on the 2024 season, Wisconsin basketball will return to the recruitment world in full force.

Williams is a Wisconsin native and grew up near Madison, which could become a major factor in the recruitment of Williams. The Badgers staff was able to land Kamari McGee two seasons ago when he was in a similar situation, although Williams has proven to be a much more prolific player than McGee.
