Another match, another stellar performance for Wisconsin Badgers volleyball, as they continue their opening string of matches. The Badgers welcomed in the Arizona Wildcats and managed to sweep them back to Arizona with scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-20.

The Match
The first set saw the Badgers rush to an 11-3 lead. Though the Wildcats attempted a comeback, the Wisconsin Badgers held them down to claim the set. The second set was closely fought with multiple ties and lead changes. However, Wisconsin’s determination shone through, securing a 25-21 win. In the final set, the balanced attack of the Badgers made the difference. Locked at 10-10, Thomas-Ailara’s serving run shifted the momentum, leading them to a 25-20 victory.
The narrative of Thursday revolved predominantly around the serving game. After facing challenges against Tennessee, where they were on the receiving end of 12 aces, the Badgers demonstrated just why they’re ranked No. 1 in the nation. by delivering a serving spectacle against the Wildcats.
Thomas-Ailara’s jump serve became the talk of the evening. Her impeccable timing led to six aces, equating the program record for a three-set match. This record is also held by teammates Gulce Guctekin (2022), Izzy Ashburn (2021), and Lauren Carlini (2016). The Badgers’ total of 11 aces that night was tantalizingly close to the record, falling short by just one.

UW coach Kelly Sheffield couldn’t contain his admiration for Thomas-Ailara’s performance. “That serve’s a genuine weapon for us, and it’s not just about the aces. The frequency with which she disrupted their system was awe-inspiring,” he remarked.
Wisconsin Badgers Volleyball by the Numbers
Sarah Franklin continues her streak of double-digit kills. For the ninth straight game, including matches from last season, she’s registered in double figures, scoring a match-high of 15 kills. Franklin ends the match 11 kills shy of 1,000 career kills.
With their hitting percentage against the Wildcats a .317, the Badgers continue a dominant run at .322 for the season.
Their 6-0 start this season puts them on pace to match their 8-0 start in 2021.
Izzy Ashburn collected one ace this match and moved within two of tying for the all-time Badgers volleyball lead.
Sheffield’s team maintained their impeccable record, moving to 6-0.
