The Wisconsin Badgers are on a three-game winning streak heading into a pivotal matchup in BIG10 Conference play this weekend at home against the #3 Penn State Nittany Lions. One of the reasons why the Badgers have looked better over the last three weeks is because of the play of running back Tawee Walker.
In the 23-3 win for Wisconsin over the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, Walker rushed for 126 yards on 23 carries. He didn’t have a rushing touchdown, but Walker averaged 5.5 yards per carry. He also caught two passes for seven yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 3.5 yards per reception.
Wisconsin Badgers Head Coach Luke Fickell Praises Running Back Tawee Walker Ahead Of the Penn State Nittany Lions Matchup
Badgers head coach Luke Fickell praised running back Tawee Walker when he met with the media. Fickell told Dillon Graff of Athlon Sports about the running back:
“We’re starting to recognize that Tawee is a guy that’s much better with more than 18-20 carries… It’s been impressive to see him as he’s continued to grow and show us how he can handle things. He gets better with the more carries that he has.”
In the last three games played for the Badgers, he has carried the ball 19 times, 24 times, and 23 times. Hopefully, this will continue to be the trend for Wisconsin’s offense.
Interesting Stats
Walker has appeared in six games this season for the Wisconsin Badgers and missed one game. In the four games they have won with him in the lineup, he has rushed for at least 60 or more yards in those contests. In the two games they lost, Walker rushed for less than 59 yards in those contests.
In the last two games, he has rushed for over 100 yards. It will be interesting to see if Walker can rush for over 100 yards this weekend against an elite Penn State Nittany Lions defense. If he can rush for that amount this weekend, the Badgers could have a chance to upset the Nittany Lions in primetime at home.
