The Wisconsin Badgers have fought off last minute pushes from other programs for the talented defender from Towson, Maryland. While it looks like the final decision came down to only one other school at the end, fans of the Wisconsin Badgers will be happy to add this talented defensive player to the ranks.
Wisconsin Badgers Decision Process
What is great about Ernest Willor committing to the Wisconsin Badgers, is that he had not even considered Wisconsin as one of his top contenders just a couple months ago. In an interview with Rivals, he had the likes of Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State, Auburn, and South Carolina when asked about schools he was considering.
Questioned what he was looking for in a potential program fit, he mentioned the following, in a Rivals interview, in regards to other schools at the time:
Every year they’re in the conversation for winning the Natty and that’s what I’m trying go and do, I’m trying to go win now, go and play now. And they’re going to give me an honest shot at doing that.
Considering this is what he was looking for, it clear that he not only believes in the vision of Luke Fickell, but also sees the Wisconsin Badgers as being on the verge on competing at the highest national stages of college football.
Wisconsin Badgers Visit
His ambition and goals have not changed, the difference is that he knows he will now be a contributor to a new program under Coach Luke Fickell, looking to make some noise in the realigned Big Ten.
After his visit with the Wisconsin Badgers, with a slightly different perspective from earlier, he shared the following with 247Sports:
I feel like I can go and make an impact now. I can go and get a chance to play right away and lead the guys to where they want to go.
During his visit, the staff made it clear how much they see in Willor, and he saw an opportunity to accomplish his playing goals with a staff that he trusts.
They made it hard to say no. I like how he (Scrugs) brings a lot of energy. He’s not afraid to coach you hard and he is always there for his guys.
When referring to his visit with Coach Luke Fickell, and Coach Greg Scruggs, they left a very good impression of the program for Willor. But it was not enough at the time to warrant an instant commit, as he wanted to first visit other schools from his list of potential suitors.
Wisconsin Badgers Final Decision
While a final decision had to wait until today, it appears that Willor is excited to get started, and is ready to produce for the Wisconsin Badgers. It sounds like his relationship with Coach Scruggs is really what ultimately sealed his commitment for the Badgers.
In a similar theme from his earlier visit, his connection with his position coach was emphasized according to another report from 247 Sports:
Coach Scruggs keeps it real with you. He doesn’t try to sugarcoat anything with you. He will never tell you to do something he can’t do himself and show you. Coach Scruggs is my guy.
Looking to make an immediate impact, it sounds like Willor believes that the Wisconsin Badgers are the best place for him to develop his skills, and win. With his drive and determination, he will be looking to compete in the upcoming playoffs, sooner rather than later.
