The Wisconsin Badgers football program got a big boost when quarterback Tanner Mordecai came to Madison through the transfer portal. The former SMU quarterback is the favorite to be under center this fall for the Badgers thanks to his impressive resume. Luke Fickell has been impressed in the first couple of spring practices and head coach Luke Fickell says he is doing a “phenomenal job”.
Wisconsin Badgers Football: Tanner Mordecai Impresses Early
While no one is questioning Mordecai’s talent, many have wondered whether he would make the transition into a Big Ten program smoothly. It is safe to say that Fickell does not think that will be an issue as he spoke about the quarterback in a recent interview.
“Tanner, in particular, he’s done a phenomenal job. He has been everything that I would hope for. Meaning in the sense that he came in, kind of kept his mouth shut, went to work, and proved a lot of things.”
Mordecai seems to be all business. He is coming in and getting right to work. As a sixth-year senior, he realizes that this is his last shot at reaching a national championship and he is committed to doing everything he can to make it happen.

Mordecai Provides More Than Just His Play
While fans will love to watch his on-the-field play, his impact goes further than that. The other player that was scored through the transfer portal was Oklahoma quarterback Nick Evers. Evers is a much more raw prospect with a huge upside. Having Mordecai on the roster means that Evers can sit back and learn the offense for a year, work on his mechanics, and not be thrust into high expectations. This is huge for the future of the program as it sets them up for long-term success.

The Wisconsin Badgers football program has had a huge off-season and hopefully, it will pay dividends on the field. Luke Fickell is excited about what he sees from Tanner Mordecai and it will be fun to see what the sixth-year senior will be able to do on the field this year.
