Craig Counsell will be starting his ninth season with the Brewers in 2023. While it may not be a “must-win” year for Counsell, there will be expectations for Counsell to get this year’s version of the Brew Crew back to the playoffs.
Craig Counsell is the first Brewers skipper to reach 600 career wins
Counsell’s all-time managerial record is 615-555. Last season he became the first Brewers skipper to win 600 career games. He also became the 68th MLB manager since 1901 to win 600 or more games with one team. The Brewers had been one of six teams that had previously not had a manager reach the 600-career-win milestone.
As you might expect, the perennial winning New York Yankees have had the most managers with 600 or more wins. They have six managers who have reached that mark. The six: Joe McCarthy, Joe Torre, Casey Stengel, Miller Huggins, Ralph Houk and Joe Girardi.
Currently there are five franchises that have not had a 600-win manager: Arizona, Colorado, Houston, Miami and the New York Mets.

Counsell also last season joined a unique group of managers: With his 600th win last season, Counsell became the 13th manager in MLB history to win 600 games as a manager with a team where he had played 600+ games as a player. Counsell played 711 games with the Brewers.
