The Milwaukee Bucks did not have a very good start to their 2024 preseason campaign, as they suffered a 120-87 loss at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit against the Detroit Pistons — the worst team in the NBA last season. Making the day worse for the Bucks was the apparent upper-body injury sustained by offseason pickup Gary Trent Jr.
Via the Bucks’ official X (formerly Twitter) account:
“Gary Trent Jr. (left elbow hyperextension) will not return to tonight’s game.”
The 25-year-old Trent hurt his elbow when he tried to fight through a screen set by Pistons big man Jalen Duren in the second quarter. The former Duke Blue Devils star fell to the ground in pain before getting assisted to the locker room. The hope now for the Bucks is that Trent’s injury is serious enough to cost him games in the regular season.
Trent, who had played before for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Toronto Raptors, signed a one-year deal worth $2.6 million with the Bucks last July.
Milwaukee Bucks struggled with shooting, turnovers in loss to Detroit Pistons
Before he left the game, Trent scored five points on 2-for-3 shooting from the floor, including a 3-pointer, in 13 minutes of action. Bobby Portis paced the Bucks with 16 points off the bench while Damian Lillard chipped in 15 points.
As a team, the Bucks shot poorly, hitting just 30 of their 86 attempts from the floor for a 34.9 field goal percentage. They also hurt themselves with poor ball security, with Milwaukee turning the ball over 24 times.
