The Green Bay Packers have missed out on the Jarvis Landry sweepstakes. The five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver has signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. According to reports, the deal is worth $6 million.

It is not surprising, at least to some, that the Packers did not sign Jarvis Landry. He fits mostly as a slot wide receiver, and the Packers already have Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers for that role. The Saints’ signing of Landry, though, does give an idea of what the Packers may be spending on any possible free agent wide receiver.
A Short, Team-Friendly Contract
As mentioned above, Jarvis Landry signed with the New Orleans Saints for one year and $6 million. For Landry, it is a good deal because he gets to play close to home. Additionally, the short-term length of the deal allows him to pursue a more lucrative long-term deal if he shows he has returned to health.
With notable wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Julio Jones still on the market, fans now have an idea of what teams are willing to give out on players with recent injury history. OBJ will not be available to play until late in the season due to a torn ACL. For this reason, he may go unsigned until well after the season starts. Jones, on the other hand, is coming off of an injury-shortened season with Tennessee. He is also older than both Landry and OBJ, meaning any deal he signs could be for less than the $6 million Landry signed for.
