The Green Bay Packers have been productive in the 2024 NFL offseason. From star signings of Xavier Mckinney and Josh Jacobs to moving on from veterans Aaron Jones and Devondre Campbell. On top of this, they overhauled their coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball.
With all these moves there is not too much action left to be done besides the NFL Draft. But there is one glaring question mark on their roster remaining, the linebacker depth. With many good fits now off the board, who can the Green Bay Packers benefit from signing?
Isaiah Simmons
After the release of De’vondre Campbell the Green Bay Packers are short at linebacker as well as little to no depth at safety. With Quay Walker, they have an athlete who can cover a lot of field in pass coverage. With the former number 8 overall pick in the 2020 draft, the Packers could find another pure athlete to blanket in coverage alongside Walker.
Isaiah Simmons is likely considered a bust by many, but the 6’4 238 linebacker defensive back hybrid remains a chess piece on defense. With the ability to move around from interior linebacker, to edge, to safety, Isaiah Simmons could find himself winning snaps all over the field for the Packers. Simmons has also not missed a game in his 5-year career, such health would be a commodity on a Packers team that has struggled in that area.
With a move to the Green Bay Packers, Simmons could find himself reunited with his former teammate Xavier Mckinney.
Devin White
After being selected with the 5th pick of the 2019 draft, Devin White has not quite become the player many expected. Coming off a bad season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sporting a pff grade of 46, Devin White is looking for a change of location to prove his talent.
With 566 tackles in his 5 years as the secondary linebacker to Levonte David, Devin White has a nose for the football. Since his drafting, White has led all middle linebackers in quarterback hits as well as second in both sacks and fumble recoveries. However White has concerns of playing too far off script and selling out for the big play/hit. If Jeff Hafley could coach the young linebacker to control his purpose on the field, White could prove to be a huge addition to the Green Bay Packers
Bobby Wagner
Bobby Wagner has been the model linebacker in the NFL for over a decade. The 6.0 240-pound future hall of famer has accrued over 1700 tackles in his storied career and has six all-pros in his career.
The 34-year-old linebacker is coming off a strong season, sporting an 82.4 PFF grade and leading the league in total tackles. As proven as a run stuffer as you can be, Bobby Wagner could be a reliable and cheap opportunity for the Green Bay Packers
. Though he has lost steps and can find himself behind in the passing game, on the Packers he would have the sprawling support of Quay Walker. His leadership, knowledge, and veteran guidance could prove to be invaluable to the Green Bay Packers’ young defense.
