Sal Frelick, the Milwaukee Brewers second ranked prospect, has had a very strong showing in the 2023 World
Baseball Classic so far. The 22 year old outfielder is playing for Team Italy in which they are advancing to the quarterfinal round. Frelick played a massive role as to how Italy has managed to escape the chaos pool and advance.

Pool A, otherwise referred to as the chaos pool, had all five teams finish with a 2-2 record. Cuba and Italy are the two teams advancing out of pool play thanks to the tie breaking formula. This means that Panama, Netherlands, and Chinese Taipei have all been eliminated.
Sal Frelick played a massive role in Team Italy advancing to the quarterfinal round in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Pool play consists of four games. Throughout those games, Frelick batted lead off and accumulated 18 at-bats. He finished with seven hits, three doubles, four RBI, and one stolen base. This equates to a .389/.421/.556 slash line.

Frelick’s stolen base came during the first game of pool play. During extra inning he began as the ghost runner on second base and swiped third base. He then was singled home and scored the go-ahead run as Italy held on to beat Cuba.

During a must win game against Netherlands, Frelick put together a three hit performance. He also had two RBI in this game. Italy ended up winning by a score of 7-1 in which they put up a six run fourth inning.

Italy will now play in Toyko for the next round of the World Baseball Classic. This is Italy’s first trip to the quarterfinals since their Cinderella run in 2013.
