The Green Bay Packers have some big questions surrounding their quarterback position for next season.
There’s the Aaron Rodgers question: will he even come back in 2023, and if he does, should the Packers trade him? Then there’s the Jordan Love question: will the team pick up his $20,272,000 fifth-year option? Clearly, the front office has an inkling of what direction in which they will go, and clearly, that includes adding some depth at the position. According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, Green Bay has met with East Carolina quarterback Holton Ahlers three times in the past few weeks.
Who Is Holton Ahlers?

As mentioned, Holton Ahlers is the quarterback of East Carolina. He is left-handed, six-foot-three, and is responsible for over 100 touchdowns in his five collegiate seasons. Ahlers has thrown for 97 touchdowns (against 37 interceptions) and has rushed for 25 additional touchdowns.
His best season was this past year when he threw for 3,708 yards while completing 67.2% of his passes. Ahlers threw 28 touchdown passes and just five interceptions. Holton Ahlers also had six rushing touchdowns and even had a 14-yard touchdown reception.
Holton Ahlers ended his college career as the American Conference career record holder in several notable categories:
- Pass attempts: 1,857 (#7 in NCAA history)
- Pass completions: 1,127 (#14 in NCAA history)
- Passing yards: 13,933 (#11 in NCAA history)
- Total yards: 15,379 (#7 in NCAA history)
- Touchdowns responsible for: 124 (#21 in NCAA history)
Holton Ahlers was the MVP of the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on January 28 and was the Player of the Game in the Hulu Bowl Game.
Why Would the Packers Be Interested in a Holton Ahlers?
Regardless of what Aaron Rodgers’ decision is, the Packers may be in need of a young quarterback. If Rodgers returns, the Packers may look into trading Jordan Love, who has said he wants to play in 2023. On the other hand, if Rodgers retires, Love will need a backup.
