Jaylon Jones Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Jones has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- Gives great effort in run support, sticking his nose in as a tackler, and should be able to contribute as a special teamer covering kicks
- He’s tall-framed with long arms to match
- Tracks the ball well downfield and shows good ball skills, including the ability to go up and high-point it in contested-catch situations
- Good hustle player who puts himself in the action when he’s not directly involved
Weaknesses
- Opens his hips too early and allows himself to get turned around in coverage
- Gave up far too many big plays in college, especially concerning since Jones has recovery speed to make up for missteps

Jaylon Jones in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Jones is a projected third-round pick. However, as you will see in the lists below, some drafts have him in the first round. With the glut of cornerback talent in the draft, people can have a wide variety of opinions about what skills set they prefer. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Jones being drafted.
- AM NY – No. 20 overall: Seahawks
- Bears Talk – No. 23 overall: Giants
- Football Outsiders – No. 27 overall: Bengals
- USA Today – No. 28 overall: Vikings
Would Jaylon Jones Fit on the Packers?
The issue with many of the cornerback prospects is their struggles against the run. For the Packers this makes those players a challenging fit as the Packers are already weak against the run. Jones is one of the few that is actually very good against the run but can struggle in the passing game.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
I think Jones is a great fit for the Packers. The big knock on him is that he has given up too many big plays. The Packers’ defense is designed to not give up big plays as the corners often play off coverage. Jones would be able to help shore up the run defense while working on his passing game deficiencies. I don’t see Gutekunst spending a first or second round pick but if he is there on day 3 of the draft, don’t be surprised if Jones becomes a Packer.
