Chris Smith in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Smith is a projected third-round pick. Because of the pedigree at Georgia, Smith will sneak into some earlier rounds depending on the needs of certain teams. Better teams can take him earlier because of his talent and then develop him. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Smith going.
- The Draft Network – No. 32 overall: Eagles
- Drafttek – Second round
- Chiefs Wire – Third round: Cheifs
- NFL Mocks – Third round: Packers
Would Chris Smith Fit on the Packers?
Safety is an area of need for the Packers. While Darnell Savage has played well as of late, Adrian Amos has fallen off this season. Behind them, players like Rudy Ford are good but do not have a huge upside. The Packers need solid defenders on the back end to support their blossoming front seven and outside corners. Smith has the coverage ability to help the Packers’ secondary not get beat by the deep ball.
Check Out Another Georgia Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
The only concerning thing for me about Smith would be his poor tackling ability. That has been the problem with the current Packers safeties. The tackling has been subpar allowing teams to break off big plays. However, if coaches could improve his tackling ability, Smith would be a great prospect for the Packers. He would be able to fit right in and have a good chance to start week 1.
