The 2023 NFL offseason is expected to come with quite a bit of change for the Green Bay Packers. Not only could a couple of well-known role players end up leaving, superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers is also being rumored to be on his way out. Should the Packers end up trading Rodgers, they would likely look to make more big moves to clear some contracts in order to build around young quarterback Jordan Love.
A move at quarterback would signal a new era of football. For the first time in a long time, there is uncertainty surrounding the franchise as a whole.
With that being said, the Packers will still need to add some help at wide receiver for whoever the quarterback ends up being. Whether it’s Rodgers or Love, the weapons need to be better than they were this season.
An Intriguing Wide Receiver Option For The Packers
One intriguing name to watch in free agency could be New England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. The Packers have been named as a potential landing spot for Meyers this offseason.
“The 26-year-old isn’t an elite talent or the type of receiver who can carry the unit. But he’s entering his prime and would be an excellent chain-moving complement to Watson and his ability to take the top off a defense.”
Meyers is coming off of another solid all-around season with the Patriots. He ended up catching 67 passes for 804 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers would look good alongside Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. He would give the Packers a legitimate threat to take pressure off of the young guys and be a security blanket for the quarterback.
At 26 years of age, Meyers would fit into either direction the Packers could choose to go. If they stick with Rodgers, Meyers would bring a veteran presence and give Rodgers another weapon to work with. For Love, he would be the exact same thing.
Ahead of the NFL trade deadline this year, the Packers were mentioned as a potential suitor. They didn’t pull the trigger on a trade for anyone, but Meyers was connected back then too. Perhaps there is more to this than just speculation, as Meyers’ game would be a nice fit within the Green Bay offense.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Packers this offseason. Meyers could be on the free agency wishlist, but if he isn’t, it would be shocking to see Green Bay stand pat at the wide receiver position.
