The Packers lost to the Washington Commanders on Sunday 23-21. There was not a lot that went right. The offense especially was a mess. There are many stats that one could point out showing the Packer’s ineptitude on offense. However, there is one that stands out and hasn’t happened since 1999. The Packers failed miserably on third down on Sunday.

The Packers failed to convert a third down for the entire game. Even on the late touchdown drive, all of the conversions came via penalty. This is the first time that this has happened since week 6 of the 1999 season in a game against the Denver Broncos. Aaron Rodgers was 15 years old when that happened. On the FOX broadcast, they pointed out that this was a streak of 370+ games. While there are many reasons the Packer offense looks bad, failing to convert a third down shows how easily this offense stalls out.
Can The Packers Fix This?
This was supposed to be the easiest part of the schedule. Games against the Giants, Jets, and Commanders were supposed to put the Packers back on track for the season. It has done the exact opposite. The Packers are in a tailspin right now and it does not get easier from here. The Bills are next on the list with games against the Eagles and Cowboys on the schedule as well. Not to mention all the divisional matchups left to play which are always tough games. It is hard to see how the Packers fix this but converting a third down is a start. The fact that the Packers failed on all third downs is not great.
The only silver lining for the Packers is that the rest of the NFC is weak. They are not out of the playoff race by any means. However, it is going to take a colossal turnaround by the entire team to make it happen. Fans will have to look for some improvement when the Packers visit Buffalo next Sunday night.
