The Green Bay Packers have started their voluntary OTA’s, as all other NFL teams have done. There are many players who are present at these workouts, but some notable names are missing. As everyone knew would be the case, Aaron Rodgers will not be showing up to any voluntary team activities. That decision was addressed by quarterbacks coach Tom Clements earlier this offseason. However, one new name is missing: Sammy Watkins.

Sammy Watkins Is Absent; Matt LaFleur Is Not Happy
Sammy Watkins signed a one-year deal with the Packers before the NFL Draft. According to multiple reports, Aaron Rodgers had a hand in luring the veteran wide receiver to Green Bay. It appears, though, that Watkins is taking the Aaron Rodgers approach to OTA’s: he’s not there.
Sammy Watkins still isn't at OTAs. Asked Matt LaFleur if the vet newcomer is missing much since QB1 isn't here. "I'm not comfortable with anybody not being here. I'd like them all to be here. Next week is mandatory minicamp. So there will be consequences (then) for not coming."

The Packers have many new wide receivers in 2022. Even though Rodgers is absent, the newcomers are still getting vital experience with the playbook. Watkins played for Matt LaFleur for a season when he was with the Rams, but that does not make him an expert in the LaFleur offense.
Randall Cobb Is Sitting in on Special Teams Meetings
One player that is present is Randall Cobb, who may be entering the last season of his career. He recently stated that he is soaking up every moment. LaFleur certainly appreciates his commitment, and even has him sitting in on special teams meetings.
“It means everything” to have Randall Cobb present at OTAs, says Matt LaFleur. Not just for the Packers’ three newly-drafted receivers, but LaFleur adds that Cobb has also been participating in special teams meetings.

Randall Cobb used to return kicks and punts for the Packers, but has not done so in a while. Likely, he is there more as an advisor to younger players.

Cobb is a real team player who has the right attitude. He even took a pay cut.
I’m so disappointed in Sammy. Oh the QB who will actually throw pases to him. Nah that doesn’t matter that he’s not there. We’re talking bout Sammy. He doesn’t get the same treatment the guy that’s holding us hostage does. Lmao. Settle down Matt. Sammy’s been around. He’s a pro. He will be just fine. Find it funny how some guys can skip and it’s oh no it’s ok. He’s been around he will do what he does. WR who’s been a #1 and in the league for years and CAN study a playbook without voluntary OTA’S. I’m so disappointed he’s not here. And people wonder why athletes act like they do. The teams and coaches feed the monster.
Enjoy the 5-6 games from the bust that is sammy watkins career.
Sincerely Ravens/Bills/Chiefs fans
