Happy holidays, Packers fans! With Christmas less than a week away, Green Bay has given us all an early gift: a division championship.
Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens provided several huge opportunities for the Packers, and they certainly took advantage. Aaron Rodgers tossed his 442nd touchdown to tie Brett Favre’s franchise record. Getting a win was also critical in Green Bay’s continued quest to secure the NFC’s #1 seed.
And perhaps best of all, following Sunday’s win, Green Bay officially clinched the division and a ticket to the playoffs.
Packers: Kings of the North
The Packers have dominated the NFC North in recent history, but this year, it wasn’t even close. In fact, as of now, they are the only team in the division with a winning record.
Green Bay currently sits at an impressive 11-3. Minnesota is their nearest competitor at 6-7, with Chicago (4-9) and Detroit (2-11-1) trailing even further behind. The Green & Gold nabbed a victory against the Lions early this year and have already defeated the Bears twice this season. They’ll look to win a revenge game versus rival Minnesota in Week 16 and sweep Detroit to close out the year.
This is the third-straight season the Packers have won the NFC North – and the eighth time in the past eleven years. Green Bay’s victory against Baltimore made them the first team in the league to clinch a playoff berth in the 2021-22 season.
Looking Ahead
Now that this achievement is under their belts, the team must zero in on their next big goal: nabbing the top spot in the NFC. With that comes the coveted first-round bye and home field advantage.
At this point, the Packers control their own destiny. The #1 seed is right in their hands… all they have to do is hold on.
Congratulations, Green Bay – we’re NFC North champs, AGAIN!
