Everyone knows that Aaron Rodgers made some pretty special history on Christmas Day. With his touchdown pass to Allen Lazard in the first quarter, Rodgers became the Green Bay Packers’ all-time touchdown pass leader. Later, Rodgers connected with Davante Adams for two more touchdowns. The 67 touchdowns Adams has caught from Rodgers are the most of any receiver-quarterback duo in team history. The previous mark was 65 by Rodgers and Jordy Nelson. What was overshadowed, though, was history that was made by Davante Adams and Matt LaFleur outside of those highly publicized feats. In fact, Davante Adams did something that no other wide receiver in NFL history has ever done.
Davante Adams: Eight Career Games with 10 Catches, 100 Yards, Multiple Touchdowns
On Christmas Day against the Cleveland Browns, Davante Adams put on a clinic. The Pro Bowl wide receiver caught 10 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. It was the eighth time in his career that he had those kinds of numbers. No one in NFL history has reached those numbers that many times.
There is little doubt anymore: Davante Adams is going to the Hall of Fame someday. The way that he has dominated the NFL over the past few seasons has set him apart from the competition. He surly deserves to be the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.
Davante Adams: First Packers Wide Receiver with 100 Receptions Three Times
Also on Christmas Day, Davante Adams became the first Packers wide receiver ever to post 100 receptions in three separate seasons. The Green Bay Packers have been around for over 100 years. Hall of Famers Don Hutson and James Lofton spent many years in the Green (or Navy) and Gold. Sterling Sharpe is seeing his team records fall left and right as Adams has climbed up the all-time list in several categories.
What is most indicative of Adams’ sheer greatness over the last few seasons is this insane stat:
Think about this too: in none of those three seasons did Davante Adams play all 16 games. In 2018, he missed one game. He did not record 100 catches, 1,300 yards, or 10 touchdowns in 2019. He only played 12 games, registering 83 catches, 997 yards, and five touchdowns. In 2020, Adams played 14 games and still led the NFL with 18 touchdowns. He also set the Packers’ record for most receptions in a season with 115. This year, in 14 games, Adams has 106 receptions, 1,362 yards, and 10 touchdowns. There are still two games left to play.
In case you’re wondering, he is just 157 receiving yards away from tying Jordy Nelson’s team record of 1,519 receiving yards in a season.
Matt LaFleur: First Packers Coach Ever to Win 12 Games Three Years in a Row
Here is a fun stat: Mike McCarthy won 12 games three times during his tenure as the Green Bay Packers head coach. Matt LaFleur has won 12 games in each of his first three seasons as the Packers’ head coach. Not only that, but this is the first time the Green Bay Packers have won 12 games in three consecutive seasons ever.
The Green Bay Packers have everything they need to win a Super Bowl this season. Beyond that, who knows what the future holds in terms of what players will or will not return? One thing is for sure though: they have the right coach in place.
