A Green Bay Packers NFC North rival suffered a significant injury during their final preseason game. The Detroit Lions, favorites to win the NFC North, lost a potential backup quarterback for Jared Goff this season.
The Lions already have one backup quarterback, rookie third-round draft pick Hendon Hooker, on the NFI list. Hooker suffered an ACL injury last November and is still in the process of rehabbing this season.

The Detroit Lions have a good QB2 for Jared Goff
The Lions still have a healthy starter in Goff. Goff’s health will ultimately decide the Lions’ success on offense this season. Sudfeld, if he cleared waivers, probably would have stayed on the practice squad. But he could have been called up if something happened to Goff or QB2 Teddy Bridgewater.
Sudfeld has 188 yards passing, one touchdown pass, and one interception in his NFL career. All of those stats were during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. Sudfeld appeared in two games for the Lions in 2022.
