NFL News: There are multiple big names still left in free agency this off-season. Ezekiel Elliot, Dalvin Cook, and DeAndre Hopkins all come to mind immediately as the “big name” free agents left. Each one has made it clear they are taking their time to find the right situation. The “right situation” often means a championship-caliber team along with the right contract. According to a report, one team has already backed out of the Dalvin Cook sweepstakes this off-season.
NFL News: The Denver Broncos Back Out Of Dalvin Cook Sweepstakes
According to Jeremy Layton of The New York Post:
Dalvin Cook’s market is not exactly shaping up the way he might have hoped since he became a free agent.
Since Cook was officially released by the Vikings on Friday, it was reported that the Broncos are not too interested in Cook despite Denver being initially considered a likely landing spot for the four-time Pro Bowler.
9 News Denver reported that the Broncos “do not appear to be in” on Cook, despite the team’s running back room looking thin.
Apart from starter Javonte Williams, who is coming off a torn ACL and may not be ready for Week 1, the Broncos’ depth chart consists of free-agent signing Samaje Perine, Tony Jones Jr., Tony Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin.
Still, the team doesn’t appear interested in the 27-year-old Cook, who is coming off his fourth straight 1,000-yard rushing season with the Vikings.
The Denver Broncos backing out of Dalvin Cook won’t hurt the star running back too much. He has already garnered a lot of interest around the league for the 2023 season (and beyond). It is a bit surprising that the Denver Broncos, who ranked 21st in the NFL last year in rushing yards, won’t be addressing their running back room via free agency this off-season. However, Denver currently ranks 26th in the league in available cap space which may play a significant role in their inability to target Dalvin Cook.
