Amari Rodgers recently opened up on how he is progressing this offseason after being cut by the Green Bay Packers midseason in 2022. The Packers drafted Rodgers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and tried to turn the successful wide receiver into a returner. The experiment ended following a fumbled punt return against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.
His last fumble for the Packers was Rodgers’ seventh with the team and the fifth in 2022.
Rodgers didn’t stay unemployed for long. He was playing for the Houston Texans by Week 13. Rodgers caught a touchdown in his second game with the Texans–against the Cowboys.
Amari Rodgers learned a lot from the Green Bay Packers

In a report by the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Rodgers opened up about what he learned during his time in Green Bay and what he’s looking forward to with the Texans. Rodgers said he learned that playing could be a short-term business:
“It’s part of the league. It happens to a lot of people. It doesn’t work out somewhere., but another opportunity opens up somewhere else,” Rodgers said. “Everything is not going to be peaches and cream. You just got to realize that just you just have to continue to grow and continue to believe in yourself and your craft and in the next opportunity just just make the best out of it.”
Rodgers believes he can take his experience with the Packers and be a better receiver for the Texans. Even though he struggled during practices with some of the Packers veterans, he said they showed him how to play the game right. Rodgers wants to model their work ethic in Houston:
“I’m going to my third season, I have a lot of stuff that I’ve seen with the Packers. I was able to play with Aaron Rogers and Davante Adams the best of the best in the league. I was able to see it and see how they prepared, I took it in every single day and I just took it with me,” Rodgers said. “Just knowing that I’m more mature now, I know what it looks like I know what it takes to be successful in the league. I feel like that’s definitely gonna help me out.”
Can Amari Rodgers excel with the Houston Texans?

Hopefully, Rodgers can become a better player in Houston. It’s clear Amari and Aaron Rodgers were not going to be on the same page in Green Bay. I think the Packers coaching staff made a mistake by trying to make him a returner instead of an NFL wide receiver.
Regardless of the reason, Rodgers didn’t fit with the Packers. We’ll see if he can prove them wrong in year three.
