One of the consequences of Aaron Rodgers being traded to the New York Jets has ended up being a plethora of news about the two parties while the Green Bay Packers are still days away from their veterans reporting to training camp.
Of course, Rodgers is still an immensely popular player among Packers fans. After all, he was Green Bay’s starting quarterback for 15 years and on the team for 18. Rodgers may have had some [a lot] of ill will towards the front office at the end of his tenure, but he only speaks glowingly of Packers fans.
It appears, however, that one little [big] issue that resulted due to Rodgers’ feud with the front office has carried over to New York, and the two sides have yet to fix it.
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets Have to “Fix” His Green Bay Packers Contract
Prior to the 2022 regular season, Rodgers signed a three-year $150,815,000 fully guaranteed deal with the Packers. Of course, he played the first year of this deal with Green Bay last year, and prior to his trade to New York, they converted his $58.3 million option bonus in 2023 to 2024 base salary.
This made the financial burden easier for the Jets to take in 2023 as now Rodgers has a base salary of $1,615,000. But here’s the problem: this means that Rodgers is due over $107 million next year.
Earlier today, Rodgers insinuated that his intention is to play for New York for multiple seasons, so it is likely that he will sign a re-worked contract that lowers that 2024 figure by a lot. With New York being featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this year, it is a storyline that could get a great deal of attention.
Thankfully, it’s not the Packers’ problem anymore.
