Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have reported to the most anticipated training camp that franchise has had in years. Indeed, the addition of a future Hall of Fame quarterback to the team has many fans hoping for the Jets’ first Super Bowl win since the 1960s.
As it was in Green Bay, there are still questions regarding how long Rodgers intends to play. He will turn 40 this year and, as recently as February, has seriously considered retirement. During his first media session of camp, Rodgers was asked about how long he intends to play in New York. His answer was, well, quite interesting.
Aaron Rodgers Says Playing 1 Year for the Jets Would Not Be Fair to New York
![Aaron Rodgers Reveals How Long He Plans to Play for the New York Jets: "I Think 1 Year Would Be a Disservice" 2 Aaron Rodgers NFL News, New York Jets](https://wisportsheroics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/USATSI_20793121_168400517_lowres.jpg)
The question asked to Rodgers about his future beyond the 2023 season specifically asked if he would play one, two, or even three more years, and if Rodgers had given any thought to it. Rodgers, responded:
“When I’m at the facility, when I’m here, you know as athletes we’re very routine-based. Whether it’s that day, or maybe that week.
“But when I’m away from the facility, yeah, you think about your life all the time. And you think about what you want to be doing this year, the next year, and the year after and so on so forth.
“But, you know, I’m not a big cliché guy. Most people would say, ‘Yeah, I’m taking this one day at a time or one year at a time.’ But the Jets gave up a lot for me, so to just play one year, I think, would be a disservice.”
It sounds like this is a “New Team, New Me” situation for Rodgers, who used to use the “I’m just focused on this year” cliché often during the last three years of his tenure in Green Bay. Of course, he is under contract for the next two seasons with Jets, and it sounds like he plans to play both of those years, and perhaps more.
Rodgers did say, though, “Who knows, this may be a magical year and then we’ll see what happens,” which seems to indicate that if he were to win a Super Bowl, he would like to retire on top. He also said that it all depends on his body, too.
In any case, it sounds like Rodgers was just done with the Green Bay Packers and is looking forward to multiple seasons in New York.
