Aaron Rodgers has been showing up for the New York Jets’ voluntary minicamp, but he won’t be participating in the mandatory minicamp this year. Rodgers has missed some time during the voluntary portion of OTA practices.
Rodgers sustained a minor calf strain two weeks ago. He was unable to practice by last Wednesday. However, a recently released video from a Jets practice shows Rodgers throwing a touchdown pass to former Green Bay Packers teammate Malik Taylor. That tandem will not get a chance to gain a better connection in the mandatory minicamp.
Aaron Rodgers to miss mandatory minicamp this season
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Jets head coach Robert Saleh has decided not to hold mandatory minicamp this year. The Jets will hold their training camp practices a week early because they play in the Hall of Fame preseason game.
The #Jets have decided not to hold mandatory minicamp next week, source said, thanks in part to coming to training camp a week early due to the Hall of Fame game. Pleased with the work this spring, coach Robert Saleh sets them free a bit early.

Rodgers has downplayed the worth of veterans attending OTAs, especially voluntary practices. But he made sure to try and attend the Jets’ voluntary minicamp as soon as he was traded. Training camp practice will probably be a better workout for the team than OTAs, but it’s a curious decision by Saleh to miss practice time this spring, especially given that his starting quarterback couldn’t practice in most of it. Rodgers and the team would have had about a month off following the mandatory minicamp anyways.
