Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur reportedly made a major announcement regarding the team’s plans to make their 53-man roster cuts this week. NFL teams were allowed to carry 90 players during all of training camp this year. However, every team must cut their roster from 90 players to 53 by 4 p.m. EST.
LaFleur’s staff will have several big decisions to make for players on the bubble this week. Brenton Cox, Emanuel Wilson, and Royce Newman are three of nearly 40-some players on the Packers’ 53-man roster bubble after their final preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday.
Many teams, such as the Packers’ NFC North rival, the Detroit Lions, were starting to make roster cuts on Sunday. The Packers were not one of those teams looking to get a jump on roster cuts this weekend.
The Green Bay Packers make an announcement on roster cuts
According to Rob Demovsky with ESPN, LaFleur made an announcement Sunday afternoon on the Packers’ plans to trim their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon. LaFleur said the Packers would likely wait until nearer the deadline on Tuesday to cut players.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he's not going to get too in depth with roster questions today but did say they probably won't make their moves until Tuesday.

Matt LaFleur’s staff has the time to make better decisions
Waiting until Tuesday makes sense for LaFleur’s staff. Many of the cuts announced Sunday were from teams who played their final preseason game before Saturday. The Packers can take advantage of the extra time to comb over film of performances and receive better clarity from the training staff about the injury status of players on the roster.
LaFleur’s announcement wasn’t the news we or many other fans wanted Sunday afternoon. Many fans and pundits are eagerly anticipating who will make the 53-man roster. But we will know for sure in two days.
