NFL: The Green Bay Packers are looking to fine-tune their team during the pre-season finale against the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers have already announced their starters will play, just like they did against the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots. However, there will be one starter who won’t be playing this weekend.
Green Bay Packers Rule Out Star Edge Rusher Rashan Gary Against The Seattle Seahawks (NFL)
Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers’ official site reports Rashan Gary will not play against the Seahawks on Saturday. A knee injury kept Gary out of camp, but he returned for Tuesday’s team drills. It appears the team will take a cautious approach with their 2019 first-round selection, hoping to have the Michigan product ready for Week 1 against the Bears
In an effort to get back on the field, Rashan Gary has been working tirelessly. The ACL injury that injured him in week nine prevented him from setting career highs in sacks, tackles, quarterback hits, and tackles for a loss. If he stays healthy in 2023, the 2019 first-round pick may be the best defensive player in the league.
In addition to giving the defensive unit a huge boost, Gary’s return also boosts individual players. Lukas Van Ness and other young pass rushers can gain a lot of knowledge from watching Gary work on the field. Moreover, it gives the offense a chance to practice against another elite player.
Fans were surprised when Gary was activated on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. This is especially true considering how cautious the team is when it comes to ACL injuries. Rashan Gary was activated from the Packers’ PUP list 274 days after the injury initially occurred. Obviously, every injury is different, but Gary’s recovery has been more rapid than previous ACL injuries suffered by Green Bay Packers players. Fans reacted on social media when they realized the Packers would be cautious with him during the preseason:
If we weren’t playing the bears I’d sit that boy until the home opener https://t.co/hp5q9Hrk6q

Sitting Rashan Gary for the @Packers pre-season finale is smart. I don’t like it. But it is smart.
