Many Green Bay Packers fans are currently discussing the former Packers player Davante Adams, who recently requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. While some fans were hopeful that he would return to the Packers, he was instead reunited with previous Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers when he was acquired by the New York Jets. While many fans seem happy that these two players will once again get to work together, the trade has also seemed to leave many other fans feeling conflicted by this unique situation.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to the Davante Adams Trade
Many fans seem a bit disappointed that Davante Adams didn’t return to the Green Bay Packers, and have expressed some chagrin that the New York Jets perhaps now posses what Green Bay once had. Because Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are now both playing for the Jets, some fans have taken to calling them the New York Packers or Green Bay Packers East to express these feelings:
Should we now refer to the Jets as “Green Bay Packers East?” All three primary offensive weapons played with Rodgers in Green Bay. https://t.co/yuVqS2M7MP

Some fans have even expressed that the New York Jets may now be more worth supporting than the Green Bay Packers, since according to the above sentiments, the Jets might as well just be the “new” Packers. Unsurprisingly, these types of comments have brought on a negative atmosphere within fan discussions. However, these cynical comments are not the only reactions out there. Luckily, other Green Bay Packers fans have opted for a more positive and nuanced approach to the Davante Adams trade:
it’s so awesome as a packer fan to:
1. have a great young exciting talented team to cheer for
2. relive the glory days and feel no consequences when they lose https://t.co/9arI4EXU0v— the green bay packers are god’s favorite (@pandas_arebest) October 15, 2024
This Packers fan has chosen to view the whole situation more positively, re-framing the trade and Davante Adam’s reuniting with Aaron Rodgers as a “reliving of the glory days” rather than feeling as though the Jets have taken what we as Packers fans once had. This fan has also highlighted an unexpected positive to both of these players now playing for the Jets rather than the Packers: the ability to feel less disappointment when they lose. Packers fans can now sit back and watch the chemistry between these two players, celebrating their successes as a way to honor their Packers tenure, without having as much investment in their failures.
This X user also highlights an underappreciated strength of the current Green Bay Packers line-up: the fact that it is made up of a collection of young, vibrant and talented players that have the ability to reach out and connect with a newer audience of sports fans. One aspect of this strength is the team’s active Tiktok presence, which allows the players to show a more authentic side of themselves on a platform that is heavily used by younger fans. While it is great to honor the older players who have contributed a lot to the Green Bay Packers over the years, it is a pity to do so it a way that undervalues the new talent on the team that has taken up the torch.
As a long-time Packers fan, I think this approach that both celebrates the opportunity that Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have to play together again, while also still remaining positive about the current players of the team, is the best way to retain positivity and moral in the face of this situation. While it would have been great to have Davante Adams back, his move to the Jets is no reason to lose all faith in the team that we love.
