Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams left Las Vegas Raiders practice early on Friday after suffering an apparent leg injury. Of course, fans were concerned about the injury due to how valuable Adams is to the Raiders. Without him, Las Vegas’ passing game would suffer without a plan to adequately replace him (see the 2022 Packers).
The Raiders were participating in a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers, and Adams got his leg caught between two opposing defenders. After staying down on the turf for a few moments, he had to be helped off to the sideline. While initial thought on social media was that the injury was a serious one, head coach Josh McDaniels does not think so.
Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels Does Not Think Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams Suffered a Serious Injury
When speaking to the media after practice, McDaniels said of Adams:
“I don’t think it was crazy serious. It was just kind of a bang-bang play. Totally clean, on both sides.”
Adams’ teammate, Jakobi Meyers said:
“I’m just hoping he’s healthy. He brings a lot to this team. We appreciate him, and we just want him to be back to himself.”
Adams will not play in the Raiders’ scheduled preseason game against the 49ers, but he was going to be held out of the contest anyway. There is still no indication regarding whether or not he will miss any games to start the season as a result of this injury.
That being said, coaches know relatively soon after how serious an injury appears to be. If McDaniels is not concerned about its severity, then it probably is nothing that will keep him out too long.
This is good news for Raiders fans and NFL fans in general. Adams is so fun to watch and sets the standard for work ethic and determination among the league’s wide receivers.
