The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of a new era. The 2023 off-season has seen the Packers move on from a number of veterans who had a profound impact on the team for years. Jordan Love and this new-look Packers offense are young and ready to prove the doubters wrong.
It has to be noted that the Packers may have to rely on strong defensive play to start the season before this young Packers offense gets firing on all cylinders. That being said, the Packers have been named in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals that would have a massive impact on their defense.
The Arizona Cardinals Appear To Be “Tanking” After Recent Trades (NFL Rumor)
Fans are calling the Cardinals’ 2023 season the “Tank for Caleb Williams” campaign. Obviously, per the league’s rules, teams can’t blatantly tank, but the Cardinals’ most recent trade shows how little they care about this season.
The Arizona Cardinals traded Isaiah Simmons, a versatile defender, to the New York Giants for a seventh-round pick on Thursday.
Originally drafted by the Cardinals in 2020, Simmons is a hybrid linebacker-safety. Having declined to pick up his fifth-year option this offseason, Arizona has now offloaded him altogether for a meager return.
The deal was praised by many fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) as New York got an absolute steal on Simmons joining Wink Martindale’s defense in 2023.
Among these fans was ex-Cardinal DeAndre Hopkins, who now plays for the Titans and enjoys a much less stressful life. Hopkins tweeted that the Giants had “just gotten a steal” in Simmons, along with two laughing faces emojis. His support for this trade is clear from the Giants’ perspective.
The Green Bay Packers Land Budda Baker In Massive Trade Proposal

Budda Baker, a five-time Pro Bowl safety for the Arizona Cardinals, requested a trade earlier this offseason, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. According to the source, Baker informed the Cardinals in February of his desire to be traded or to receive a new deal to make him the highest-paid safety. According to his four-year, $59 million extension signed in 2020, Baker owes $13.1 million this year and $14.2 million in 2024.
Among the best safeties in the NFL, Budda Baker stands out. His career highlights include five Pro Bowl appearances, two first-team All-Pro selections, and a second-team All-Pro selection in 2021. Baker has made 20 pass defenses, seven interceptions, four sacks, and two forced fumbles over the past three seasons. The Packers’ defense, which has been in need of consistency for quite some time, would benefit greatly from that type of production.
Proposed Trade:
Green Bay Packers Receive:
- Safety Budda Baker
Arizona Cardinals Receive:
- 2023 second-round pick
If recent trends show what the Cardinals are willing to take for their players, they may consider a second round pick a steal for their all-pro safety.
