NFL: The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears start their season against each other in just 16 short days. The Packers are looking to prove that Jordan Love is in fact their franchise quarterback. The Bears feel this is the year that Justin Fields can prove he is the same for their franchise. The Bears, however, seem to have caught the injury bug pretty early this season.
The Chicago Bears Lose Wide Receiver Dante Pettis For The Start Of The Season (NFL)
Dante Pettis was placed on injured reserve by the Chicago Bears on Friday. The team also released wide receiver Joe Reed.
Pettis was placed on injured reserve after an undisclosed injury rendered him unavailable for four weeks. Consequently, he can no longer serve as the team’s punt returner and receiver depth.
During the month of July, Pettis landed on the NFI (non-football injury) list for an undisclosed reason. His name was removed from the list on Aug. 9 and he was cleared to practice and play in preseason games again.
What Does This Mean For The Bears Going Up Against The Green Bay Packers?
With this latest move, the Bears remain focused on D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool. A depth chart for their team also includes Equanimeous St. Brown, Velus Jones Jr., Tyler Scott, Daurice Fountain, Isaiah Ford, and Nsimba Webster.
Despite Pettis starting seven games for Chicago last season, his loss will impact Chicago’s depth at the position. In their secondary, the Packers enter the season extremely healthy. Eric Stokes, who is recovering from a foot fracture, is the only player they are waiting for.
It’s a good thing that Green Bay is strong at cornerback. Rasul Douglas and Jaire Alexander are slated to start as the outside cornerbacks, while Keisean Nixon will play nickel cornerback. The Packers’ seventh-round draft pick Carrington Valentine also has had an impressive preseason, one of the most impressive in recent memory for a rookie cornerback.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the Bears draft Velus Jones?
The Bears drafted Velus Jones in the third round to enhance their offense with his impressive speed. Despite having a 4.31 40-yard dash time, Jones needs to demonstrate that his speed can translate into on-field performance. However, he is confident in his ability to contribute to a revamped receiving unit, which features D.J. as the number one option.
Where is Velus Jones Jr?
Velus Jones Jr is currently with the Chicago Bears, having been drafted by the team in the third round at the 2022 NFL Draft. Shortly after the draft, on May 17, 2022, he signed a four-year contract with the Bears.
