NFL: Aaron Rodgers has started his reign with the New York Jets. How long that reign will last remains to be seen, however, many are optimistic that it will be at least two years. Health will be at the forefront of that of those two years if the Jets want him on the field. Rodgers has been relatively healthy throughout his career, however, he suffered a fairly painful injury at practice this week.
Aaron Rodgers Suffers A Toe Injury At New York Jets Practice This Week (NFL)
Aaron Rodgers didn’t play in the Jets’ Hall of Fame game loss to the Cleveland Browns, and while is was likely never in the cards for him to suit up for that game, an injury ensured he wouldn’t.
According to Jets head coach Robert Saleh via ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Rodgers suffered a pretty painful injury recently, and the Jets are obviously taking all precautions to keep him ready for the new season.
There was a lot of concern about Aaron Rodgers’ foot for a minute or two at Jets training camp on Saturday. Rodgers came out of drills after his foot was stepped on while being pursued by edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. Zach Wilson took over for a few snaps before Rodgers returned to action.
After the session was over, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Rodgers’ toe was fine and used the incident as a chance to offer a reminder about the quarterback being off limits at practice.
“We do it all the time,” Saleh said, via the team’s website. “Stay off the quarterback. Respect the quarterback. Every player knows how important those quarterbacks are, but stay up, stay off them. It goes without saying, but you’re always going to try to make it a point of emphasis.”
Upon re-entering the playing field, the 39-year-old field general connected with tight end Jeremy Ruckert on a red zone touchdown pass. Rodgers ended practice by hitting Allen Lazard for a score. It was good to see Rodgers get back up and continue practice, however, it will surely be something to monitor. Rodgers has played through injuries many times in his career, however, we have seen injuries impact his play from time to time.
