The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers are preparing for a Monday Night Football clash that has gained some sudden interest as of late. The Giants are 4-8 on the year and while they haven’t been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet, their attention may already be on the 2024 Draft.
The Packers, however, have seemingly completely turned their season around after a 3-6 start. Three straight wins against the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs have thrust them right back into playoff conversation. A meeting with the Giants on Monday Night Football suddenly seems like a game the Packers SHOULD win. They will have to face a bit of a surprising name at quarterback.
The Green Bay Packers Will Face Off Against Tommy DeVito As The New York Giants’ Starting Quarterback
According to Jared Schwartz of The New York Post:
Brian Daboll didn’t need long to make his quarterback decision.
Tommy DeVito will start for the Giants’ “Monday Night Football” clash against the Packers, Daboll said Tuesday, the first time he’s spoken since the bye week.
“Tommy’s done a good job, he’s improved each of the games he’s played,” Daboll said. “Thought he’s played well the last two games, made good decisions, was accurate with the football, earned the right to play.
“Every decision we make is for that reason [to give them the best chance to win].”
As a result of Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor’s injuries this fall, DeVito was called up to be QB1. Jones is out for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL, but Taylor was activated from the injured reserve list on Monday. Taylor suffered a rib cage injury during the team’s loss to the Jets in Week 8. He hasn’t played since.
DeVito has played well so far this season. He’s appeared in five contests, starting three of them. He has a 2-1 record as a starter, a 62.9 completion percentage, 697 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Still, given Tyrod Taylor’s veteran experience, it is a bit surprising to see the Giants name DeVito as the starting quarterback with nearly a week to go before their next game.
