NCAA News: The Wisconsin Badgers have been on a hot streak in 2023.  Luke Fickell was hired last November to become the new head coach of the Wisconsin football program ahead of the 2023 season. In a short period of time, Fickell has already made tremendous strides after taking on the historic job opening.  There have been numerous quality commitments to the program since Fickell took over, and there could be one more on the way.

The Wisconsin Badgers have done well for themselves as far as the class of 2024 goes.  They currently rank number 14 in the country after a barrage of commitments followed the program’s early June official visit weekends.  The Badgers still have plenty of target left that could make a difference for the program.  According to Ben Kenny of Yahoo Sports:

One player is three-star running back Gideon Ituka. The Maryland native tweeted yesterday he would be announcing his commitment Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CST. His decision will come after spending June 9-11 on-campus for his official visit.

Ituka is 247Sports’ No. 993 player in the class of 2023, No. 78 running back and No. 25 player from his home state of Maryland. The recruiting service currently lists one crystal ball prediction for the running back to choose Wisconsin.

Why Would Gideon Ituka Choose The Wisconsin Badgers?

The Wisconsin Badgers have earned themselves the nick-name “running back University” for a reason.  They consistently put out NFL quality talent at the position.  They are currently tied for the most Doak Walker Award Winners in the NCAA.  The Doak Walker Award, established in 1990, is awarded to the nation’s top collegiate running back every season.

The Wisconsin Badgers have had five winners of the Doak Walker Award, tying them with the Texas Longhorns for most ever.  Those include Ron Dayne (1999), Monte Ball (2012), Melvin Gordon (2014), Jonathan Taylor (2018, 2019).  Braelon Allen is a strong candidate to win it in 2023 as well.  Gideon Ituka would have an opportunity to follow these greats in the Red and White in Madison.
