NBA rumors: The Milwaukee Bucks have a solid core — one that led them to a championship a couple of years ago. However, the counterargument here is that this is the same core that has failed to live up to expectations in the past two seasons.
This begs the question: should the Bucks then break their core up if the right offer comes along?
NBA Rumors: Jrue Holiday Considered ‘Expendable’ Trade Asset for Bucks
Lucas Valind of Fansided listed three players on the Bucks that he deems “expendable” at this point, and shockingly, Jrue Holiday was one of the players on the list. Initially, most Bucks fans would instantly disagree with this notion, given how the two-time All-Star has proven to be such an important player on the squad. However, Valind argues that between Holiday, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Khris Middleton, it’s Jrue who’s going to be the odd man out:
“Holiday, though, is the most likely of the team’s core players to go if a trade involving one of them takes place this off-season. It can easily be debated whether or not expendable is a word that should be used for Holiday in trade packages. Still, if a big offer comes their way, the Bucks would almost certainly listen for the correct offers in a Holiday exchange. Holiday is likely to be moved only if the team receives an offer that completely blows them away,” Valind wrote.
The argument here is that the Bucks will only part ways with Holiday if the right opportunity comes along. This would have to be a trade for a (semi?) star that could help them win now. It would make no sense if Milwaukee were to trade Holiday away for future assets. After all, with Giannis (still) at his peak, the Bucks are always going to be one of the favorites to go all the way every single year.
NBA Rumors: Bobby Portis, Grayson Allen Also Deemed Dispensable
Apart from Holiday, the two other players on the expendables list are Bobby Portis and Grayson Allen. While both players are also important members of the squad, they are not on Jrue Holiday’s level. If given a choice, the Bucks front office will likely be more willing to part ways with either Portis or Allen instead of Holiday.
Be that as it may, the earlier argument still applies. The Bucks have a pretty good thing going right now so it would have to be an outstanding deal for Milwaukee to even consider moving on from either Portis or Allen. Then again, if you take into account what’s a stake for this franchise in the near future, it would actually make a bit of sense for them to make such a high-risk move if the right opportunity comes along.
