NBA rumors: There has been an age-old debate on whether or not Anthony Davis functions better as a power forward or a center. The eight-time All-Star himself has already stated in the past that he prefers the PF role, but the fact of the matter is that the Lakers have used him at the five significantly over the past couple of seasons.
NBA Rumors: Lakers Pair Anthony Davis With Nic Claxton
Lee Tran of Fadeaway World appears to have solved this dilemma for the Lakers. In a very interesting proposal, Tran suggests that LA trade for Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton.
Here are the details of the proposed trade:
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Nic Claxton
Brooklyn Nets Receive: Jarred Vanderbilt, Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2030 First-Round Pick (LAL), 2030 Second-Round Pick (LAL)
Claxton is one of the very best in the league in terms of protecting the rim. The fact that the 6-foot-11 big man averaged 2.5 blocks last term is a clear testament to this fact. Pairing him with Anthony Davis produces one of the most fearsome frontcourt duos on the defensive end. It also allows AD to shift back to his preferred PF role and perhaps, produce at the same level as he was during LA’s 2020 championship run.
NBA Rumors: Nets Stock Up on Future Assets
The one downside for the Lakers here is that Claxton is on an expiring deal. Moving him will work in the favor of the Nets in that they not only get an able replacement in Jarred Vanderbilt but also acquire a trio of future assets.
The Lakers traded up to get Jalen Hood-Schifino in the recently concluded draft, which leads you to believe that there’s a lot of potential in the 6-foot-6 shooting guard. The Nets also pick up a couple of future draft picks, which they can either wait to use seven years from now or include in a trade package for another piece (perhaps a star?) to pair alongside Mikal Bridges.
