NBA rumors: It wasn’t too long ago when we reported that in spite of some whispers surrounding Anthony Davis’ potential departure, the fact of the matter is that the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t going to let their cornerstone big man leave anytime soon. The front office now appears to be on the brink of proving their loyalty to Davis by offering him a big-money extension that will keep him in LA for the foreseeable future.
NBA Rumors: Lakers Expected to Make Extension Offer for Anthony Davis
ESPN’s NBA guru Brian Windhorst talked about Davis’ contract situation with the Lakers in a recent episode of his podcast. With Davis eligible for an extension in the coming days, Windy fully expects the Lakers to table a contract offer for AD soon:
“I do think there is an expectation that the Lakers make some sort of offer or show their intention to make some sort of offer,” Windhorst said (h/t Caleb Nguyen of Fan Nation).
If the Lakers want to keep Davis for the long haul, then an extension will be necessary. While AD still has two more years remaining on his current deal, he does have a player option on 2024-25, making him a potential flight risk next summer if no new deal is signed in the near future.
NBA Rumors: Giannis Antetokounmpo Nearing Extension With Bucks?
Much like Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo is also going to be eligible for an extension this summer. The Bucks have much more leeway, though, with the former back-to-back MVP still under contract through 2026, with a player option in the final year of his deal.
Milwaukee is expected to table an offer for their cornerstone superstar, which incidentally, Giannis could choose to turn down in favor of a much bigger payday next year. Regardless of his motives, Antetokounmpo rejecting an extension from the Bucks will leave more than a few Milwaukee fans nervous.
