NBA rumors: The Boston Celtics have been busy this summer. Their activity has been highlighted by their successful coup on Kristaps Prozingis, which also included Marcus Smart being shipped off to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team trade deal. They have a looming order of business that has yet to be done, though, and that comes in the form of Jaylen Brown’s contract extension.
NBA Rumors: Jaylen Brown, Celtics at an Impasse on Contract Extension?

Despite the fact that Brown has been eligible to sign a max contract extension for some time now, the two-time All-Star has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. According to Brian Robb of MassLive, Brown and the Celtics could be at an impasse at this point:
“Despite (Brad) Stevens’ optimism, the absence of a supermax deal nearly three weeks into free agency is a little bit noteworthy given the factors in play for both sides,” Robb wrote. “There are issues to work out per sources (trade kicker possibilities, player option for a fifth year, etc.) that come as no surprise at this point. However, it will be interesting to see just what side gives in on their preferred terms for a deal.”
Stevens himself previously stated that they want Brown to remain in Boston for “a long, long time,” and so far, there has been no indication from Brown that he wants out. As such, it seems like it’s just a matter of both sides finding common ground. According to reports, this could come out to a record-breaking $300 million max extension for the 26-year-old. No wonder it’s taking a lot of time.
NBA Rumors: Could Bucks Have Similar Problem With Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Could the Milwaukee Bucks face the same predicament with Giannis Antetokounmpo later this summer? The Greek Freak will be eligible for another extension in September, and the general expectation is that both sides will come to an agreement. Giannis’ could reportedly sign a three-year extension worth $173 million, and if I were the Bucks, I wouldn’t mess around at all. The last thing they want is to lose Antetokounmpo as a free agent in the summer of 2025, which could be the case if no new contract is signed this offseason.
