NBA rumors: After a major setback, the Boston Celtics finally got their hands on Kristaps Porzingis via a blockbuster three-team trade that involved the Washington Wizards and the Memphis Grizzlies. The Celtics had to let go of former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart in the deal, as they looked to shore up their frontcourt with the addition of the 7-foot-3 Porzingis.
Before that deal went down, however, an initial blockbuster trade fell apart. This involved former Milwaukee Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon supposedly heading to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team deal that ultimately did not come to fruition. Naturally, this led other teams to believe that Brogdon was on Boston’s trade block, which apparently, might not be the case.
NBA Rumors: Celtics Not Interested in Trading Malcolm Brogdon
An anonymous source has revealed how his team tried to strike a deal with the Celtics for Brogdon. As it turns out, Boston wasn’t interested in parting ways with the 6-foot-5 combo guard:
“We asked about him and we were told he’s a valued member of their team,” the source told Steve Bulpett of heavy.com.
“They said he’s a valued member of their team, and that’s where it ended. I don’t know if that changes down the line, but we didn’t get anywhere. And I’m pretty sure we aren’t the only team that got that response.”
It sounds like the Celtics have had a change of heart with regard to Brogdon’s availability. They were willing to let him go for Porzingis, but now that they appear to be happy with their current roster, it looks like the 30-year-old isn’t going anywhere anytime soon — especially with Marcus Smart now in Memphis.
NBA Rumors: Malcolm Brogdon’s Bucks History
It now feels like an eternity since Brogdon dawned the Bucks uniform. This was actually just four years ago.
Milwaukee scooped up the former Virginia standout as the No. 36 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Their decision paid off handsomely, with Brogdon coming away with the Rookie of the Year title in his debut campaign. After three seasons, however, Milwaukee sent him to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for a future first-round pick and two second-rounders. He’s obviously come a long way since his early years with the Bucks.
