NBA news: The New York Knicks made some big moves last season, and it paid off handsomely for the squad. It all started with their summer coup of Jalen Brunson, which proved to be an excellent decision that will have a significant impact on the franchise for the foreseeable future.
Another key recruit for the Knicks last term was Josh Hart, who arrived mid-season following a four-team trade involving the Portland Trail Blazers, the Charlotte Hornets, and the Philadelphia 76ers. New York had to give up quite a haul to land Hart, but again, it proved to be another stroke of genius from the front office.
NBA News: Josh Hart Nearing $81 Million Extension With Knicks
ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that the Knicks have decided to reward Hart for his contributions to the team lasts season. The 28-year-old picked up his player option for the 2023-24 season, which was set to be the final year of his current deal. Well, New York made sure the 6-foot-5 forward wasn’t going anywhere.
“New York Knicks G Josh Hart is finalizing a four-year, $81 million contract extension, Aaron Mintz, Dave Spahn and Steven Heumann of @CAA_Basketball tell ESPN. Deal delivers Hart a total of $94M through 2027-2028 season,” Woj wrote in his tweet.
Hart made an instant impact with the Knicks as soon as he arrived. In 25 games played last term, the 28-year-old put up averages of 10.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 steals, while also connecting on 1.1 triples per game on a 51.9 percent clip.
It is also worth noting that Josh Hart is a former college teammate of Knicks star Jalen Brunson. They also acquired Donte DiVincenzo this summer, who himself is also a former Villanova Wildcat. New York is obviously doing all they can to keep Brunson happy — and for good reason.
